Students are expected research a current event topic

Students are expected research a current event topic that is relevant within the past 5 years and present it to the class. Topics must follow the requirements below and grading will be based on the rubrics. Presentation is worth 30 points and annotated bibliography is worth 20 points.

Freestyle – Provide a current event that highlights your personal interests in the EHS field.

Current Event Presentation– Create a presentation to be shown in class, which highlights a current event in your field of interest.

An acceptable presentation must include a PowerPoint, Google Slides, or other similar type of visual aid, or a prerecorded video created by you, and played in class. A prerecorded video can only be chosen twice for the current events. You must present in person for at least one of them.

Please see the rubrics for a grading matrix.

Annotated Bibliography – Write an annotated bibliography for your current event article and include any back up articles you used for evidence in your presentation.

Students will create a research strategy in order to locate and access needed information. Topics that are found on less-than-credible sources should have references within the article to support the topic. If no references are found in the article, a search for credible sources should be done and annotated as well. If multiple sources are used to confirm the validity of the topic, annotations should be written for each source. Please don’t let this discourage you from topics. Annotations are quick to write.

Peer Reviews: Complete the rubric for each peer. Add comments for the reviewer in the peer review. Grades will be based on the peer review and comments. Meaningful and helpful critiques are expected. Just leaving “good job” or “good topic” isn’t helpful.

Ideas for comments:

What did you like most about the presentation?

Was the presentation easy to understand?

What areas can the presenter improve?

Did you stay engaged?
