Case Study Research Paper

You studied about Finances in American Community College in Module 3. As your module 5 written assignment, you work with “Finances” for your case study research paper.

The major paper/project for the class is a case study research paper that will be a synthesis and application of community college content as it applies to actual community college settings. The paper will have two parts. The first part will contain the brief summary/synthesis of a specific community college area based on your module readings. The second part of the paper will be the description/analysis of the implementation status of a specific community college area at the community college of your choice that you wrote the introduction about in Module 2. Module assignments are accumulative and the final draft will be submitted on Module 6.

Students will investigate the community college of their choice focusing on one module topic (through website search, document review, and/or interview, etc.). At the end of the semester, students will develop a case study research paper with following sections: 1) introduction, 2) finances and 3) references.

Students will use non-justified, double-spaced type (Times New Roman 12-point font). The format will include 1-inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides, and comply with APA (6th ed.) guidelines. Continue to use the template that you have used in Module 2.

Finances (4 – 6 pages; minimum 600 words)

It should include two parts. The first part (theory) will contain your brief summary/synthesis of the finances in American community college based on your module readings, including the following information (2 – 3 pages; minimum 300 words):

· Major sources of revenue for community colleges

· Allocation Patterns

· Tuition and Student Aid

· Issues related to finances/budget

You should include citations in text from your textbook and from at least two journal articles from your module 3 readings and add the list of journals cited in References.

The second part of the paper (practice) will be the description/analysis of the finances at the community college of your choice, including following information (2 – 3 pages; minimum 300 words):

· Major sources of revenue in your CC

· Tuition and student aid in your CC

· Budget implementation status in your CC

· Issues related to finances/budget in your CC

· Your suggestions for improvement

In working with the second part (practice), you will gather information by searching official website, documents review, and/or e-mail/phone interview with a person who is in charge of/involved in the finances at your community college. If you are unable to complete the second part (practice) because of lack of information, you can focus on the theory part only and write 4 – 6 pages theory paper instead (In this case, you should include citations from additional two more journal articles from your module readings). However, you should contact instructor when you need to choose full-theory paper option.
