Week 7 Discussion

Albrecht Drer, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, 1497, Woodcut.

One of our key artists for this week, Thomas Wood, draws direct inspiration from the Renaissance master printmaker, Albrecht Drer (21 May 1471 – 6 April 1528). Together, let’s further explore how Wood uses Drer as a reference point in his work. For full points in this week’s discussion form:

1.) Compare Thomas Wood and Albrecht Drer’s (Links to an external site.) prints

  • Tip: your textbook chapter for this week also discusses Drer!

2.) Write a ~100 word initial post by midnight Wednesday, Feb 16 answering:

  • What are some similarities you can pinpoint between Wood and Drer’s approach to printmkaing?
    • Remember to use your visual analysis skills!
  • What are some visual differences?
  • Why do you think Drer is such an important references point for Wood?

2.) Chose a classmate’s post and respond with an additional ~100 words by Friday, Feb 18

Your response may expand, question, deepen, and/or challenge your classmates’ post. You could also, for instance, point out a thought posted by your classmate that you found particularly striking. Regardless, respond according to SPU community norms of kindness, respect, and inclusivity

  • Part 2 I will upload by Tuesday
