Social Media

Section 1: References
and Summaries

Chopra, K. (2013,
September 17). The effects of social media on how we
speak and write. Social Media Today. Retrieved
from

https://www.socialmediatoday.com/content/effects-s…

In this article, Chopra
argues that social media has changed the approach to communication
among the audience, primarily due to some of the necessities for
improvement in such communication. For instance, the limit to a
number of characters applicable to using the social platforms necessitated the
development of a shorthand approach to written communication, which
also manifests itself in the contemporary approach to sending short
messages. Ultimately, Chopra indicates that social media has
significantly changed communication, both verbal and non-verbal,
some of which has been at the detriment of appropriate written
communication.

Hoof, H., & Buhalis, D. (2013). Social media in tourism and
hospitality: A literature review. Journal of Travel &
Tourism Marketing
, 30(1-2), 3-22.

According to this study,
consumers of social media information are significantly influenced
by making particular decisions, which has
ultimately influenced the professional use of the social media
platforms. Consequently, businesses in the hospitality industry
strive to make professional use of the platforms to the extent of
influencing their audience into using their businesses for their
travel and leisure activities. Social media has positively impacted
the ability of businesses to interact with consumers.

Korell, D., & Logan, D. (2012). Share, like, recommend: Decoding
the social media news consumer. Journalism
Studies
, 13(5-6), 815-824.

According to the research
herein, consumers base their decisions on various purchases of the information available on social media about
the different products. Ultimately, this has influenced the approach
by different producers in which case they make an effort to employ
professionals who would provide the necessary oversight of
information about the various companies posted on the social media
platforms. Therefore, social media has provided employment
opportunities within various firms in addition to the ability of
various consumers to make appropriate decisions on various products
based on information from people who have in the past used the said
products.

& Taylor, B. (2014). Online communication, social media, and adolescent wellbeing: A

Review
, 41, 27-36.

In this case, the scholars
determined that social media is an effective
platform for communication about issues people experience, which
could serve as an ideal source of insight on, among others, health-related issues. In addition to offering
health assistance within the confines of clinics and hospitals,
healthcare professionals could offer the same services on the social
media platforms, based on the information therein available. With
many of the young generation being enthusiastic users of social
media, it serves as an appropriate way of reaching the population
within the said niche and offering services as appropriate.

Section 2: Social Media
Advantage and Disadvantage Summary

Social media has increased
access to information, in which case it is relatively hard to make a
decision without consulting opinions from other people who have used
the product or services and expressed their opinions on the social
platforms. Ultimately, it becomes easy to access the highest quality
services and products with more ease than would have been the case
if such information would have been available. Consequently, most
modern consumers base their decisions on the information reviews
available on social media platforms, which ultimately increases the
satisfaction derived from the said purchases. Social media has
provided a source of a professional overview
of various products before making a decision to purchase a
particular product or service.

On the other hand, the use
of social media has been detrimental to appropriate expression in
the form of written communication. In some cases, errors in written
communication result from the influence of social media use. While
formal communication requires that one elaborates
on various concepts, social media communication occurs in
various contexts, which makes elaboration unnecessary. Ultimately,
it becomes a challenge to express self as appropriately as possible
in professional writing.
