Reflective Practice – Tying it all together!

As you partake on the creation of your Capstone Portfolio, it is important to reflect on what you have learned throughout your coursework. The capacity to reflect on what you are doing has become an important feature of professional training in many disciplines and it has a particular importance for the emerging professional. For this week’s discussion, I want you to reflect on your learning as it focuses on your Healthcare Administration work. Please think about and answer the following questions:

  • How often and how do reflect on your learning?
  • What types of activities in your coursework have you participated in that would benefit from reflective practice?
  • Think back to your externship and describe a time when you used reflective practice and how this process changed or improved your thinking.
  • What role will reflection take in the development of your capstone portfolio?
  • Do you have any questions about your project or the reading assignment this week?

Remember that your response should be a well-developed, college-level posting free of spelling and grammar errors. You may need to use outside resources to fully explore the topic of reflection. Wiki’s, ask.com, and about.com are not credible resources and should not be used to respond to the discussion.

An integral part of becoming skilled in reflective practice is engaging in dialogue and collaborating with your peers about different issues encountered in the workforce. As you read your peer’s posts look for areas where you can collaborate and obtain advice on workplace issues. For example, if during your externship you had an experience where an employee did not value your input on a project because you were a student, ask your peers how they would handle the situation.
