my answer was:
How do you look at collective problem solving and avoid the dilemma of an individual’s agenda driving the work of the group in their own direction rather than for the common good?
Problem-solving is very significant in achieving the primary goals of a group. It helps in uniting the group towards achieving the common goal and eliminates all the elements of individualism among the group members. To avoid the dilemma and achieve the collective goal of the group, one must ensure the process of solving the problems include discussions, thoughts, collective decision-making and actions that considers the challenges faced by the group and the primary objectives of the group (Sherif & Muzafer, 37). The group must effectively define the problem by considering the goal, undesirable situations and the obstacles affecting the problem-solving process.
Analyzing the problem together with the group members and identifying the significance of its solution to the group helps in achieving the common goal of the group. It helps in identifying the potential causes of the problem and assists in generating its possible solutions. Evaluating the solutions is also imperative and helps in avoiding the dilemma of an individual’s agenda driving the work of the group in their own direction rather than for the common good and achieving the collective problem-solving goals. To achieve the common goal of the group, one must also assess and implement the solution to determine its effectiveness and its impact on the primary goals of the group.
What are methods to come to consensus and value each member’s perspective?
Coming to consensus and considering the value of the perspective of every member of a group is paramount and helps in achieving uniting and understanding among the group members. One of the major methods of coming to consensus and valuing each member’s perspective is by ensuring and initiating active participation from all the members. Encouraging all the members to generate ideas helps the group in coming to consensus and valuing each member’s ideas. Introducing a multi-voting approach when making decisions is also a significant method that helps the group achieve consensus and valuing perception of members. It is significant when the group has different options. Pinpointing the priorities also helps in attaining consensus. It helps in prioritizing and ranking each members task and collectively deciding on the best option (Baldwin, Richard, Francesco, 42). The most effective approach that helps the group in valuing the member’s perception and achieving consensus is involving the whole groups in developing the solution. It helps the members to feel valued and important to the group. It also helps the group to easily come to a consensus.
