This type of assignment encourages one to think about how and why a poem, short story, novel, or play was written. To successfully analyze literature, you’ll need to remember that authors make specific choices for particular reasons. Your essay should point out the author’s choices and attempt to explain their significance.
PLEASE USE MY INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH AND THESIS:
Shirley Jackson was born on December 14, 1919 in California’s own, San Francisco (Allen, 1). She was a brilliant author of many short stories, including “The Lottery”, which received a lot of criticism. Jackson refuses to spell out the meaning of this short story, leaving the interpretation up to the reader. This allows the story to sit on a throne of uniqueness. In “The Lottery” the theme of conformity is illustrated through symbolism, tone, and irony to show it’s devastating and damaging consequences.
