A. Should a project manager manage critical path tasks differently than noncritical path tasks?

Answer: Yes, a project manager should manage critical path tasks differently than noncritical path tasks by managing critical tasks with additional caution unlike noncritical tasks, basically taking critical tasks significantly more seriously than noncritical tasks, at least in a normal logical situation.

This is because there might be situations in which the activity times are not being fully acknowledged and aware of and the tasks that business people think are critical might actually be noncritical. Regardless, on the smart side we should take all tasks seriously to avoid any wastes of time should any noncritical tasks actually turn out to be critical tasks.

An example would be having a Café company that takes care of many critical path tasks that could take up a total duration of 8 hours in an entire day due to usual business serving customers, doing dishes, calculating cash earned and proper food and drink preparations. Non-critical paths are things like having candy for sale, bad oil for food and having bad behavior towards customers which are obviously tasks that are not even needed in café businesses which would be a complete waste of time because it is pure negativity.

Answer: The impact to the project can be seen as either beneficial or unbeneficial. Projects usually follow an SWOT analysis to determine strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. On the positive look of things, that would be strengths and opportunities. On the negative look of things on the other hand, you will have weaknesses and threats.

Strengths: Respect and being nice to one another

Weaknesses: Lack of confidence in abilities in one another as well as themselves

Opportunities: Training to make them have more sufficient confidence in themselves

Threats: Worries of members potentially messing up goals, lack of cooperation or even quitting the job

B. The difference between critical and noncritical path is critical paths are the important things within the project that is something goes wrong with those tasks the project can not continue nor finish. Noncritical paths are tasks where is something goes wrong the project can continue and there’s a change the project will still finish. The question if project managers should manage critical and noncritical paths different the answer is yes.

The critical path should have more focus than the noncritical paths. Making sure projects start and finish within the timeline is one of the post important tasks other than budget. The impact to theses task on projects are important because duration of tasks affect the overall timeline. Although critical path are more important than noncritical paths, noncritical paths should still be a important factor in projects. Little detail can build into larger details, meaning noncritical paths can build into critical paths.
