Student Quick Reference Success Week 2 Discussion

THIS IS ONLY AN INTERPRETATION, FIVE SENTENCES AND A QUESTION IS ALL I NEED. TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS, HAVE REFERENCES

• Offer an alternative strategy for mastering one of the concepts covered in APA Quiz 1.

• Offer an additional APA resource.

To best answer to this weeks discussion I first must describe my own challenges to APA writing styles, something I have struggled with heavily due to my need to write nearly the opposite in my profession, that of what we call “Cop Writing”. Which we as law enforcement professionals are taught to keep it simple. Anyway, my struggles were realized early in my academic pursuits and I had to go through extremes to master my fears and pursue a successful level of APA writing.

The tools I used were following the APA 6th Edition to every page, every word and letter. Then I went on to hire APA writing tutors to help me with my writing skills, which I still use today, but obviously not during times when such assistance is restricted. I also use the Purdue Owl and other sites like crossref.org and other sites designed to enhance the writer’s skills.

The most significant challenges in my academic pursuits thus far were the ability to focus on my writing while struggling with past health conditions which heavily impacted my abilities to perform to an adequate level, as well as my refusal to admit that taking a break now and then was a necessity.

What I took from this weeks quiz was an affirmation of what I have learned over the years about the need to follow strict APA guidelines in order to stay out of trouble with the University, and with all that is right in the academic world.
