Resolve Complex Policy Issues Discussion 2
Prior to preparing your discussion post, read Chapter 10 in Martin (2015) and Chapter 9 in Steiner (2015), and access and review the required resources (which include the video, Local police and homeland security (Links to an external site.), and the following websites: National Association of Counties (Links to an external site.) and National League of Cities (Links to an external site.)).
Review the material on the National Association of Mayors set forth in Chapter 6 of the Martin (2015) text which was previously assigned for Week Two, and please access and review the required website United States Conference of Mayors.
For your initial post, research a case that illustrates the role of the U.S. Conference of Mayors within the context of homeland security. Within the context of this case, explain how the U.S. Conference of Mayors interfaces with responsibilities and functions across agencies at various jurisdictional levels that mitigate hostilities, threats, hazards, and consequences. In addition, examine the skills needed by mayors of U.S. cities to identify, evaluate and resolve complex policy issues within the context of homeland security. Finally, argue whether mayors of U.S. cities should have more, less, or unchanged executive authority within the context of homeland security issues. Evaluate the ethical and legal issues associated with your view on executive authority for mayors of U.S. cities within the context of homeland security objectives. Identity at least one benefit and one concern with your position on executive authority for mayors of U.S. cities. As a reminder, be sure to incorporate citations when appropriate.
You must incorporate at least two citations within your initial post. As a reminder your citations must be in APA format as outlined by the Ashford University Writing Center. No quotations are permitted. Your posts should incorporate analytical and evidence-based statements and reflect a synthesis of the assigned readings. Your initial post should be a minimum of 400 words.
