As a perspective Board Member of an NPO, you believe that it would be best to find out first hand, what criteria or what qualifications would be expected of you. In order to be prepared for your meeting in the next few days, what better way to prepare yourself than to ask a professional who is already serving in a leadership position of an NPO Board?
In preparing your Reflective Paper assignment here are a few suggestive questions that you could ask that may provide you with some great in-depth information as to how this person may have been selected. When interviewing the Board Member make certain that you ask as many open-ended questions as possible, which will allow you the opportunity to probe deeper into their experiences, capabilities, and motivation.
This is a minimum 2-page; 300 words narrative paper and not a question and answer type file. Please develop this as an essay APA format complete with an introduction or opening, body and conclusion. See the Rubric in this Module to help make certain that you include the grading points.
Aside from the name and location of the agency/organization, provide information as to how long theyve been a Board Member. Here are some SAMPLE questions that you could ask your interviewee (Please be original and ask your own questions):
- Why were you interested in serving with this particular organization?
- What did you know about the organization when you were first invited to serve? Did you know what theyre getting into at that time?
- What experience did you have that were related to the organizations mission? How did their mission fit in with your own lifes philosophy?
- What fundraising experience did you have at that time? Were you comfortable with fundraising? Explain.
- What connections or contacts did you contribute to the organization?
- How much time do you typically contribute per week? Per month? Per year?
- What other resources did you contribute? This could be money, assets, property, etc.
- What qualities do you believe make a great board member?
- What personal qualities did you bring to the board?
- What experience do you believe you have that have made you a valuable Board Member of this organization?
- What do you get from this organization in return for your services? How do you feel youve been treated?
- What motivates you as an individual to be a Servant Leader? What keeps you going?
