WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT # 2/3
THE EVOLUTION OF PUBLIC RELATIONS
DUE February 17, 11:59 pm.
Please read the following questions carefully.
Review and follow the writing guidelines I provided at the beginning of the semester before preparing your answers.
For this assignment, you should provide your own opinion and also conduct outside research in addition to information you find in your text.
The 20th Century has often been termed as the era in which public relations came of age (particularly 1950-2000). During this time period there were many pioneers who contributed greatly to the profession. Among them were Edward Bernays and Ivy Lee, who were considered to be the founding fathers of PR. Examine both of their contributions and share your insight by answering the following:
Part 1: Which of these two men do you believe made the greatest contribution to laying the foundation of public relations as we know it today??
Which of their accomplishments in particular do you feel were notable in shaping the way contemporary PR is practiced?
What, if any, of the methods they used do you believe were questionable or controversial? You are allowed to objective.
Which of the principles they developed do you believe to be the most significant?
Part 2: During the 20th Century, there were great transformations both in society and within the public relations industry. Looking back to the year 1900 and up to 2000-2020, which era do you feel made the greatest contribution to the public relations profession as it is practiced today and why? Cite specific examples.
I am looking for quality, not quantity. Therefore, it is not the number of pages that is important, but the content you offer. That said, for this assignment you should look to prepare at least four to five pages, (for both questions 1 @2) double-spaced to answer each of these questions. (In other words 2-2/12 pages for each question)
3. Two-paragraph answers will not be enough.
4. Use resources to support your case and make sure to cite them in the body of your text, and include a bibliography, MLA.
