Provide One Possible Solution Academia Vocational
1st assignment. ONLY NEEDS TO BE 1 PAGE…consider the following scenario: A group of anthropologists has recently begun studying an indigenous population deep in the Amazon rain forest. As part of their research, the anthropologists learn this group has used a plant that works as a topical anesthesia. It turns out that the plant can be harvested and used by doctors for surgeries.
Within a short period of time, a pharmaceutical company has learned of the plant and has created a patent on the plant. The patent will result in the company having legal claim to the new drug, but other groups, including indigenous populations, will have no way to benefit monetarily from the finding.
Because the indigenous population is unaware of the ways in which the patent will result in financial gains for the company, they sign away the rights to the patent.
If this scenario were to occur, what are some of the ethical ramifications for the scientists? How should the scientists respond? What are the scientists’ obligations to the indigenous group?
Provide one possible solution to this dilemma
2ND ASSIGNMENT 2-3 PARAGRAPHS ONLY……..Find an example of a politicized cultural group in the media. For example, in recent years, the mascot for the Washington Redskins has become the subject of great debate. To many Native Americans, the depiction is highly offensive.
Attempt to find a similar example. This can be a film clip, cartoon, book review, magazine article, or a different kind of medium. In the document you create for this assignment, embed the example you identify or include a link to it. From there, address the following questions:
- Describe the ways by which your example sends a political message about or for a specific cultural group.
- Do you think your example was produced by the group it depicted? Why or why not?
- How can this message do damage, and to whom?
- Can this message have a positive effect on the group in question?
3RD ASSIGNMENT..this is only 2 pages and this can be done in 4-5 days if you want…..REMEMBER WE ALREADY selected THE two additional parties (for a total of five parties that you will focus on in the project), you have written a brief statement of interest about why you selected the two additional parties, and you have composed a description of invested parties for all five groups.
Now you will focus on two key tasks, which include the investigation and selection of scholarly materials and the development of a potential ethical behavior statement for each of the five parties.
- First, you will create a literature review. Select two scholarly sources for each of your five invested parties, for a total of 10 articles. These scholarly materials will be used throughout the remaining sections To help guide your conclusions of the ethical dilemma.
- Second, write a paragraph for each of your five parties. For each party, answer the following two questions:
-
- Have they been involved in anything like this similarly in the past?
- Would their involvement in an archaeological discovery be motivated by unethical behavior?
