Part 1
Initial Post: After viewing the video, Police Officer Stress, located earlier in this module, identify and briefly discuss three factors that can impact the level of stress a law enforcement officer experiences. What specific resources and coping skills might help with managing stress and minimizing the risks of PTSD?
Research information on positive and negative coping skills and the practice of mindfulness. Currently, what positive and/or negative coping skills are you using to cope with stress? What is your plan to decrease negative coping skills and increase positive coping skills? How does mindfulness play a role in utilizing positive coping strategies?
In your initial post, you will be required to cite a minimum of one professional source of information.
Response Post: When responding to other students, provide constructive insight and/or suggestions for improving their coping skills. Provide suggestions for additional positive coping skills they might use to maintain healthy living.

Part 2
The Balancing Act for Well-Being
At times, police work can be dangerous, stressful, and emotionally challenging. Maintaining a work-life balance may be difficult for some law enforcement officers. Failing to implement self-care practices and techniques may lead to issues such as: obesity, heart disease, stroke, cancer, work related injuries, mental health disorders, alcohol and chemical dependency, fatigue, insomnia, and relationship struggles.
In a two-page essay discuss the following:
What are some of the biggest challenges associated with the law enforcement profession that may interfere with the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of officers? How can law enforcement officers find a healthy balance between their personal/family life and the demands associated with working in the field of law enforcement?
What is your individual plan for achieving optimal health when working in the field of law enforcement? What skills, practices, and attributes of a healthy lifestyle do you plan on implementing to maintain physical, emotional, and mental health?
Try researching local resources on the internet. Do you feel that there are an adequate number of resources available to support law enforcement officers in need? Why or why not. How would you describe an effective leadership response to officers dealing with stress who are struggling with managing stress on their own?
Your essay should incorporate a minimum of one scholarly resource from the Rasmussen online library or credible internet source, such as a government website or professional organization.
