TEXTBOOK: Bentley, Jerry H. Herbert F. Ziegler, and Heather Streets Salter, eds. Traditions & Encounters: A Global Perspective on the Past. Combined Volume. 6th Edition. McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2015. ISBN: 9780073407029. The purpose of the paper is to compare information in your Source from the Past with information on the same topic written by a modern historian. Generally, you will first explain what your Source from the Past says. These Sources from the Past may include personal feelings or may not contain all relevant factual information because the author was an eyewitness to an event and didn’t have all information. You will then compare the content of your source to a scholarly source that you choose which will be an analysis of the event using all available sources of information, and conforming to modern standards of impartiality and objectivity. You will use this scholarly source to describe the event and how the information in your Source from the Past or the opinions expressed by the author of your Source from the Past are similar to or different from the facts in your scholarly source. The paper will be broken down into four (4) smaller required assignments that will be due throughout the semester ASSIGNMENT #1 I HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED, WHICH WAS MY CHOSEN TOPIC FROM ABOVE

Assignment #2, Scholarly History Source for Paper: You will then choose at least one factual history source with which you will compare your Source from the Past. This source must be written by a professional historian sometime after 1960. This sources should contain a factual account of the event or time period described in your document. This source will be an analysis of the event using all available sources of information, and conforming to modern standards of impartiality and objectivity, so will give you reliable information about the event. Once you choose your source, you must cite it in Chicago Manual of Style format (following the example given in the handout) and submit that for approval with a few sentence summary of the source. DUE: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 o A list of many acceptable and unacceptable source types can be found below. Please carefully review the list, as submitting an unacceptable source type will result in a deduction on this assignment. While you are only required to use one additional, scholarly source, you may use as many as you feel are necessary. However, all outside sources that you intend to use in your paper must be approved by me.
