The Duckworth video will provide background information about grit and the CORE animated video will give more specifics about how this information may be applied to your experiences

Question 1:
Think carefully about a time on your life that you faced an obstacle that you overcame. Document the situation and how (or if) you used the steps related to developing grit.
A. Briefly describe a past situation or obstacle where you developed grit.
B. How/did you develop a fascination with the topic? Were there questions or other tasks related to the topic or situation that you found interesting or fascinating? What did you want to do better?
C. Striving for daily improvement. Did you do something on a regular basis to practice or learn more about this topic or task? Be specific, e.g., “I stayed after class, practice… to get additional support” or “I spent an additional 10 minutes reading beyond what was required”…
D. Did you connect this topic/task to a greater purpose? What kind of meaning did this topic or task have for you?
E. What is a growth mindset you used or adopted? What did you tell yourself that helped you to keep striving for improvement? (You can use the slides from previous weeks to think about how you can support a growth mindset.)
F. What were the results of your efforts?

Now think about an area related to school, work or another part of your life where would like to increase your grit. It can be the obstacle you shared in class or a different obstacle. Use the prompts below when considering your response to the questions.
A. Briefly describe a situation or obstacle where you would like to develop grit.
B. How can you develop a fascination with the topic? What are questions related to this topic or situation that are interesting to you?
C. Strive for daily improvement. What can you do daily or on a regular schedule to practice or learn more about this topic? When can you carve time out during your day to improve? Be specific, e.g., “I can carve out one hour every Sunday afternoon…”, “I can spend an additional 10 minutes reading”…
D. Can you connect this topic to a greater purpose? How will this improve or change your life or others’ lives in the short term and/or in the long term?
E. What is a growth mindset you can use or adopt to support your growth in this area? You can use the slides from previous weeks to think about how you can support a growth mindset. Remember a growth mindset is a disposition or habit that you could adapt now and many, many years in the future.
