    Choose one of the two featured groups we have learned about in the first weeks of the class (Blacks/African Americans or Latinos/Hispanics). Create a PowerPoint presentation that looks at gender roles and expectations of the group addressing the following points:
  • What group did you choose?
  • What are the commonly held gender roles and expectations for that group?

What are the differences and similarities between the groups gender roles and expectations and those of the dominant American culture?

What is a common prejudice that is held about the group’s gender roles and expectations?

How do these prejudices manifest themselves in the healthcare workplace?

What are some strategies for addressing these gender prejudices? Give an example.

Presentation Requirements (APA format)

  1. Length: 8-10 slides (not including title, introduction, and references slides)
  2. Font should not be smaller than size 16-point

    What would you do if you encountered a person with vastly different religious beliefs than your own? Create a presentation that will demonstrate what resources you would use, and what strategies and/or tips you would use to create or promote an atmosphere of tolerance.Include the following:
  • What religious group did you choose?
  • What are the basic tenets of that religious group?
  • How do those religious tenets differ from your beliefs?
  • What strategies did you use to address the differences between the different beliefs?

Looking forward, how will your experience impact the way you work with individuals from different backgrounds?

As you complete your presentation, be sure to:

  • Use speaker’s notes to expand upon the bullet point main ideas on your slides, making references to research and theory with citation.?
  • Proof your work
  • Use visuals (pictures, video, narration, graphs, etc.) to compliment the text in your presentation and to reinforce your content.
  • Do not just write a paper and copy chunks of it into each slide. Treat this as if you were going to give this presentation live.

    The purpose of this assignment is to go beyond the usual social network(s) and realm of understanding in order to build a bridge of understanding about another person from his/her perception about his/her own life experiences in the workplace and or helping professions.Interview two adults: one adult of a different ethnicity/race/religious/disability than yourself and one adult who is at least 10 years older or younger than you. You must choose one person from each category, not the same person. Ask him/her the following questions and document the answers for each interview.
  • Document if the person you interviewed is male or female.
  • What is their ethnicity/race/religious affiliation/disability status or age? (Make sure the person is ok with sharing  this information.)
  • What is their level of education?

What is their occupation?

Have they ever experienced discrimination in the workplace? How did they feel? How did they react? Please explain what happened.

  • During their lifetime, what significant current event have they experienced? (e.g., 911)
  • How has this significant event shaped their experiences with others?
  • After you have the aforementioned interview questions answered, please provide the following regarding your findings:
  • Compare and/or contrast the experiences of the person you interviewed to your own. Provide one example. Write an explanation of at least two paragraphs in length for each interview. Be sure to address the following questions, along with any additional information your wish to include and/or share:
  • What conclusions can you draw from the commonalities?
  • How could some of these situations be mediated or resolved (e.g., by the person experiencing the discrimination, by institutions employing those who are discriminating others or dealing with clients/customers who are discriminating against employees).
  • Please be sure to inform the people you are interviewing that his or her responses will be kept confidential and anonymous and thank him or her for the time spent interviewing with you.Writing Requirements (APA format)
