WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT YOUR MAJOR?
- What’s your major? or field of study/interest?
- Who are some of the most well-known people in your field? Locate these people on the web. Do they have web sites? What content do they have? Are their CVs public? If they are, explore their professional trajectory.
- What are some of their most important achievements? google for information.
- What are some of the most important theories and/or movements in your field? Wikipedia or any other encyclopedia online could give you a good sense of what your major/field is all about.
- What are some of the current issues in your field that scholars or professionals are talking about? Where could you have this kind of information?
- What are some of the website, blogs, or media outlets where you can find specialized information about your field?
Go online and search for a list of blogs dedicated to your field of study (architecture, engineering, law…); then:
- list the names of a few of those blogs, including the web links
- visit at least one of those blogs and explore its content
- describe the blog; for example, does the blog have articles, videos, opinion pieces, Q/As? do you recognize any names (prominent scholar, professional)? read any of the articles and see if you find it interesting, and then write a commentary about it.
- how do you think you could use this (or any other) blog in the future? in what way do you think it could be useful?
