All hotels are made up of the same materials. The most interesting takeaway from this video is that no matter what the building looks like, hospitality is all that matters. Yes, I do agree with the presenter that human connection is key to a successful hotel company. People want to feel like their business is appreciated. The presented mention that getting to know peoples name goes a long way and it is true, people will want to continue doing business with the establishment if they feel a connection. The presenter mentions how a hotel went out of their way to get to know him in a personal level and he appreciated that, he mentions that he has visited hundreds of hotels and this made him feel special. If people took the time to make this personal connection then their hotel brand would be more successful since people will share this type of experience with others, which will make people want to stay at this hotel since they would like to experience the same type of service. Word of mouth is one of the best marketing tools, these people will become brand ambassadors and share it with everyone they met.

1. What was the most interesting takeaway for you from this video?

In my opinion, the most interesting takeaway in this video is the speakers point about the human side or connection of the hotel industry. The speaker’s example of the welcome card informing him “Blackish” is on channel 12 at 8:30 shows that the hotel did research on his likes before his stay. This little “personal” attribute blew his mind on the human connection that some hotels offer which creates extreme loyalty.

2. Do you agree/disagree with the presenter that the human connection is the key to successful hotel management companies? Why or why not?

I absolutely agree with the presenter that a human connection is the key to successful hotel management. I agree with the speaker on his thoughts that humans have that primal desire to be loved and cared for. Sometimes hotels (and other industries) consider patrons as numbers or a source of income.

3. What other key points were mentioned in the video about being a successful hotel management company, and how could it be used as a marketing tool.

Other key points in the presentation included the reference to AirB&B’s customer service representatives as hosts. The word host over customer service rep diversifies a clearer representation of the machine vs. human aspect. Another point made was the fact that “making a human connection” is probably the greatest attribute any Hospitality business professional can make. Finally the concept of people want to do business with people is so primitive however holds a long lasting significance in the Hospitality industry today. All of these can be considered future marketing tools.
