Level May Impact Society Prevention Intervention
To prepare for this Discussion:
• Review the section titled “Prevention” in the excerpt from the book Community and Agency Counseling. Consider the elements and purposes of prevention, as well as the argument for it.
• Review sections 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 on pages 40–44 in the excerpt from the book Theories of Intervention & Social Change. Think about forms of interventions used at individual and community levels and how they might be similar to or different from primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention efforts.
• Review the Part I introduction as well as Chapter 1 in the course text, Psychological Consultation and Collaboration in School and Community Setting. Think about what consultation encompasses, how it relates to prevention and intervention, and how it may address mental health and behavioral concerns in various settings.
• Review the article, “Advocacy and Services: The National Mental Health Association and Prevention.” Reflect on the historical evolution of prevention on the national level and on how prevention at this level may impact society.
• Consider how prevention, intervention, and consultation endeavors may lead to social change.
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 4 an explanation of how prevention, intervention, and consultation relate to one another. Use a specific example of a social, behavioral, or mental health issue, problem, or concern in your explanation of this relationship. Then, briefly explain how prevention, intervention, or consultation endeavors may lead to social change, also using a specific example.
