Leadership Strategies Research

Objective: Apply leadership strategies.

Instructions:

Throughout this course, you have assumed a leadership role and looked at various situations within the work environment. You realize that in the real world you will not be assigned to a leadership position immediately upon graduation. Yet, this is the time to begin thinking about how you will handle difficult circumstances with coworkers and leaders. We have all had good leaders and sadly to say, many, if not all of us have had poor leaders during our careers. As a new employee you may work with, and answer to, someone who has a different leadership style than your own. You may even clash with this person.

Consider the following scenario:

You have been on your job for approximately two years. Recently, leadership team members have changed assignments. Your new boss does things very differently and you are beginning to feel a bit hostile and uncertain of your own responsibilities. To complicate matters even further, you are part of a team of seven people, several of whom have also expressed that they are unhappy with the way the new boss is delegating assignments. You have considered asking to be transferred to a new department, but you discover that the only move you can make within the company, at this time, would mean taking a significant pay cut.

Using what you have learned about yourself and the traits of successful leaders, discuss how you would demonstrate leadership to your team members who are all unhappy with the recent changes.

In your paper:

Begin with a brief summary of your leadership style, and how it incorporates your personal values.

Next, address each item below and provide specific examples or hypothetical situations for each one:

  • Which leadership theories would you employ and why?
  • How would you foster trust among your coworkers?
  • How would you address conflict between your team and your boss?
  • How would you address the recent changes your new boss has implemented?

Create a three- to four-page paper in APA Style, including a title page and a reference list. You must cite and reference at least three scholarly sources. You may use your textbook as a source.
