Later Adult Age

Later Adulthood Can Be Rewarding

Brief description

You will contact an older person to gather information, which is then shared with the class via DB.

Objectives

You will:

  1. Have a greater appreciation that later adulthood can be enjoyable and rewarding.
  2. Identify factors that contribute to good physical and mental health.

Procedure

  1. Talk to an older friend or relative who appears to be enjoying life and who is in fairly good health. (If you cannot meet with this person, telephone him or her.) Ask (a) what activities make this persons life enjoyable, and (b) to what does he or she attribute his or her good health?
  2. In your discussion post, describe positive qualities and characteristics of the person you talked to and then summarize their responses to the questions.
  3. Discuss a summary of activities that make the respondents lives enjoyable and to what they attribute their good health.
  4. Discuss the consistency between the chapter presentation of factors that promote good health and those mentioned by your respondent.
