Examine the films using the texts we have read. An analysis should always make something
possible not simply be a summary, i.e. by looking at the movie, what can we
understand about life, history, the universe, sexuality, politics, etc.? This
is mainly focused on the internal elements of the film against the cultural
background.
Requirements
– all papers should make reference to the
technical aspects of the films discussed, not simply plot. Cuts, angles,
composition, etc. are, as discussed, integral to an understanding of film.
– use the questions and answers generated
through weekly discussion as a source for notes
– incorporate elements from the assigned
readings and lecture materials; don’t talk into the void, demonstrate your
engagement with the course
Length: Between 1500-2000 words.
Footnotes preferred over end-notes. Citation
format Chicago.
