The History of India
From the 1930’s until the 40’s, Gandhi was the main character in India that helped change the government system. By Ghandi having a non-violence uprise against the British rule and the high taxes over imported goods, the British were not only embarrassed but yet also allowed them to rethink how they are ruling, and how they’re rules are very rigid. Later on After Gandhi’s death a big disruption occurred in India that involved Pakistan. This led not only to great poverty but new violent attacks and also have to a lack on having a strong stable government.
Throughout the year 1947, because of the uprise of the Hindus and Muslims which became very powerful, the British gradually began losing power over India. This led to Britain creating a border or split between the country that was made up of Muslims and Hindus. This became what is now known as Pakistan and India. After the split, there was a battle between India and Pakistan over who would get the Kashmir, located in the Himalayas. India underwent violence and harsh government after the split as well, which was made worse after the death of Gandhi. Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, while he was preaching by a Hindu Brahman fanatic. This stemmed from the country being split apart by Muslim and Hindus that were extremists which led to Gandhi’s death in a violent way of being shot says (Britannica). After the death of Gandhi, India not only underwent the nation’s separation between the Muslims and Hindus, but also started the violent protest once again. In the year 1950 there was rebirth of The Dominion of India after the border between Pakistan and India was created, therefor India was renewed by having “non muslims”. More over the Muslims moved over to the Pakistan, which led to India change their philosophy of having all religions together.
In 1960’s through 70s, many people in India began to change by using new technologies and changing old traditions. In 1961, the first formal meeting for the Non Aligned movement, which was established in 1955, took place in Yugoslavia. The purpose of Non Aligned Movement was to gain independence from the powers from the Cold War such as Russia and the United States. In 1966 Indira Gandhi, the previous prime minister’s daughter was able to become the prime minister of India until 1984. In the 1960’s Chemical Fertilizers increased the production of wheat and rice but made small and poor farmers unable to benefit from the new technology. In 1966 Soviet Union had hosted South Asian Peace Conference that allowed India and Pakistan made an agreement at the Tashkent , which was under Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic to be back to normal relationship, meaning no violence but to understand each others point of views.
