There are a number of food regulatory agencies that work hard to maintain and improve the safety of the food supply. However, foodborne illnesses still exist, and tens of millions of people each year in the United States are affected. Food recalls occur when it is found that pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, and microbes, have compromised the integrity of the food, and the affected food, and even food that may have been affected, is immediately removed from the food supply. Research food recalls (they happen more than you may think!), and report back on the following.
What food was affected?
How was the compromise detected?
How widespread was the recall? (How many people were sickened?)
Have you ever experienced gastrointestinal distress after a meal, or have you ever been diagnosed as having a foodborne illness?
Remember to include the article URL of the food recall you are posting about.
