Following Questions Using Single Cj Week 6
Please respond to the following questions using single space, 12 point font, and good organization. Your response should be at least two pages but it can be more. Use headings, avoid first person, remain objective, use research/support, maintain good grammar-spelling-punctuation, say what you mean clearly, and otherwise respond with your best efforts. There are a number of different directions in which you can go here, but part of the assignment is to give you some latitude to interpret our studies and compare those to recent real-world events. To assist you, you may consult the book, any outside sources, or any of the materials posted below.
On January 6, 2021, thousands of Americans protested what they believed to be a fraudulent presidential election. The protest turned violent, costly, and unlawful for several hours when thousands stormed the Capitol, broke through barriers, attacked police, broke into the Capitol building, and caused an evacuation of the Congress and Senate. One protester was shot and killed and another died at the scene. Numerous police officers were injured and at least one died during the events.
1. Tension: Looking at the events of January 6, 2021, and its aftermath, through an objective lens, rather than a political one, how do the events show the tension between homeland security and civil liberties that we have considered so far this semester?
2. Specific Areas of Study: What are some of the specific areas we have studied in the first part of the course that became relevant to the January 6, 2021 events? For example, you can consider the US Constitutional issues, the Posse Comitatus Act, the Stafford Act, the Sedition Act, the Quarantine Quandary, the Patriot Act, the role of the media, and any other issue we have discussed and/or you believe to be important.
3 Fundamental Problems or Weaknesses: Notwithstanding one’s political perspective, what are some fundamental weaknesses or problems in the US regarding homeland security and civil liberties that the January 6, 2021 events revealed?
4. Solutions and Recommendations: What solutions and recommendations can you offer as a homeland security student and aspiring professional?
