Writing Question

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

For your final paper, you should examine a topic that is different from the topic of the case study that illustrates that method for our class. For example, you could propose a study that uses survey research to examine interracial couples but not to examine sexual prejudice, unless your study used a distinct conceptualization and operationalization of sexual prejudice.

What might your proposed study look like in terms of research design, data collection, data coding, and data analysis? In particular, how might your study address the five decisions/questions for research using your chosen method? Your main administrative constraint is that your study should be feasible for a UO senior to complete in a single term.

Why is your method of choice more appropriate than another of our four methods for studying your topic? For example, why is your proposed survey research on interracial couples a better option than interview research on interracial couples? Alternatively, your final proposal may supplement the primary method in question with a second method (i.e., proposing a mixed methods study). Instead of discussing how your method of choice is more appropriate, you would discuss how the two methods might complement each other for your proposed research.

Formatting requirements

The top of your paper should include your full name, your assigned case study group, our course number, and a specific title for the paper. The body of each paper should be 400-500 words in length, approximately 1 single-spaced page in length, using 12 point font and 1 inch margins.
