SMART goals were presented as an effective goal-setting approach. Understanding SMART goals is critical to success with this assignment. You should be able to clearly demonstrate that you understand and can utilize the technique. Remember, a goal is SMART if it incorporates all the SMART criteria: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
Here is a step-by-step guide to preparing this assignment:
Brainstorm Start by reflecting on your goals for the next 10 years. Goal prompts (see link to goal prompts below) are provided to help you brainstorm. This reflection phase hopefully will lead you to consider several goals, but you only need to write about three SMART goals for this assignment.
2. Write SMART Goals
Develop three academic, professional, or career-focused SMART goals that you intend to accomplish over the next 10 years. Each SMART goal should be a single, robust sentence as presented in the course materials. Use this format for writing your SMART goals: By (Year), I will______.
Note: anything considered a personal goal (e.g., losing weight, paying off the mortgage or other financial intent, getting married, etc.) will not qualify for assignment credit. Please ensure the goals presented in the 10 year plan are academic, professional, or career-related.
3. Create a plan
After carefully crafting your SMART goals, explain 3 courses of action you will take to reach each goal (200-250 words per goal) followed by a method you will use to ensure progress and hold yourself accountable (50-100 words per goal). Refer to the template and how-to below which will help you format your paper.
Thoughtful, substantive, and well-written content is expected throughout. Succinct writing is a must. Please be attentive to word count requirements.
Use the 10 Year Plan template (MS Word) provided to prepare your plan and submit your assignment; no other document will be accepted.
