Write a four to five page paper (12 point Times New Roman, double spaced, one inch margins) on one of the following topics by reflecting upon class texts. Please cite the relevant reading from our class in your paper. You do not need to cite anything other than the readings we have studied in class. If your paper has any additional sources (including online materials), you must cite them to avoid plagiarism. Use footnotes or parenthetical citation to indicate your sources. No cover page or bibliography is required. Choose one of the following topics for your paper:
1. Analyze Thomas Aquinas’ understanding of the nature of theology (i.e. “sacred doctrine”). In doing so, explain the implications his view would have for the study of theology. (Reading: Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae I, Q. 1, A. 1-2, 5, 7-8)
2. According to Dei Verbum, what is divine revelation and how is it transmitted to all generations of people? In what sense is Scripture divinely inspired, and how does it contribute to the current life of the Church? (Reading: Vatican II, Dei Verbum)
