The Assignment
Our text book has divided the religions we study into 4 groups: Basic Religions, Religions Originating from
India, Religions Originating in China and Japan, Religions Originating in the Middle East. For your second
paper, please choose 2 religions to compare. These religions should come from different basic groups. For
example, if you choose a religion from the group Religions Originating in India, you should choose the
second religion from a different group; either Basic Religions and World Religions, Religions Originating in
China and Japan OR Religions Originating in the Middle East.
Once you have made your choices, compare the two religions. Discuss the differences and the similarities in
ONE of the following areas:
Life of the founder
Religion and Nationalism
Value/view of the Material world
View of the Afterlife
Violence (Remember the four categories mentioned on pg 10)
Other topics are permissible with the approval of the instructor. Please email me with your idea.
Acceptable Length 5 to 7 pages
