As teachers, we need to be prepared to confront personal prejudices and acknowledge how they affect us professionally as we work with students from diverse cultures. Because teachers are required to set aside all personal biases and opinions in order to work with their students, it is important for us to reflect on exactly what our own culture and prejudices might be. The purpose of this assignment is to first challenge yourself by reflecting and explaining your culture/s of origin and how this may present difficulties of personal prejudice in your work with students. Discuss your own culture in the light of individualist and collective cultures. Include a plan regarding developing your own cultural competence when addressing thelnose prejudices in the future.
