Nursing models can be defined as theories that support the nursing practice by guiding nurses to plan, asses and implement the best framework for uniformity in nursing. Examples of models in nursing care include team nursing, progressive patient care and primary nursing. Team nursing is a model introduced in the 1950s and allows a team leader and the members to provide quality care to patients. Patient-care duties are shared in a team nursing model (Shirey, 2018). Nursing skills are mixed and care given as per guidelines of the nurse team leader. Fragmentation of care is considered under a team nursing model.

Primary nursing model is a comprehensive care organized by the nurses to support the whole treatment process. Continuity of care is emphasized in primary nursing. Also, this model allows direct patient care. Primary nursing model is costly and rejected in many healthcare institutions (Shirey, 2018). Nurses using the primary nursing model ensure individualized patient needs are met.

The progressive patient care guides nurses to execute their roles in hospitals. Patients are divided into units determined by their health needs under progressive patient care. The degree of illness determines the level of progressive patent care given. The elements determining the working of progressive care include the intensive care units, beds attached to out-patient departments and intermediate care units (Shirey, 2018). Hospital services are tailored to meet patient needs under progressive patient care.

The information engineering approach and social construction approach encourages team communication, especially in a healthcare setting. In healthcare, interprofessional communication is needed to help describe reality in their nursing processes. Effective communication is determined by the level of understanding among the receivers of the information (Manser, 2018). In healthcare, ethics should be considered when information engineering and social construction approaches are used to support communication.

The information engineering approach describes communication as a process integrating linear transmission of messages. Use of the approach ensures communication is accurately done, and transfer of information is not broken. The information engineering approach limits the ability to appreciate social dynamics in healthcare, although many scholars have confirmed its use in supporting effective information (Manser, 2018). Interprofessional teams in modern days apply information engineering approach in communication.

The social construction approach is used in supporting communication among interprofessional teams. The approach views communication as a primary social process to promote meaningful interactions. The social construction approach supports communication patterns that define the role of interprofessional groups (Manser, 2018). The approach introduces explicit frameworks for supporting communication of teams’ goals.

1.Question One

Team nursing care model is one of the earliest methods to be conceived. It will involve having one nurse as a team leader and the other nurses as members of the team (Hastings, Suter, Bloom, & Sharma, 2016). In this case, the members of the team will be competent in different skills and hence they will deliver all rounded care to the patient.

As well there is primary care model where when one nurse offers individualized care to the patient for the entire care period (Dal Molin et al., 2018). Hence, the nurse will be committed to serving the needs of the patient. This model is related to an improvement in the healthcare outcomes of the patient.

Gabutti, Mascia, & Cicchetti (2017) alludes that a progressive patient care model has been linked to the increase in the efficiency of the manner that cares delivered. It will entail dividing the patients according to their needs and this case having the nurses attend to them. A good example of this model is the intensive care units.

2.Question Two

According to Vertino (2014), there different strategies that can improve communication between inter-professional teams. Firstly, it is being open-minded in the process of communication where the team member can talk about the issues that might be considered as being taboo.

Secondly, it is learning the manner that the members of the team can disagree in a manner that is respectful. Thirdly, it is developing the power to negotiate. In this case, it will mean that disagreements can be handled in a manner that is amicable.

Fourthly, the members of the inter-professional team should form a habit of always seeking to clarify statements in the case they think there is a misunderstanding. That will prevent the emergence of any conflict within the team. Lastly, there is a need for team members to develop a habit of always owning their statements or words.
