Think of a job you held or a career path chosen that defined your self-worth
According to Louis Uchitelle in his essay, “The Consequences – Undoing Sanity,” one of the primary costs of layoffs is that they deprive people of a primary way to define their self-worth. Write an essay in which you reflect on the relationship between work and self-esteem.
Consider using yourself or someone close to you as a case study. Think of a job you held or a career path chosen that defined your self-worth? What would the effect be of having this particular work outlet taken away?
Finally, research the current unemployment statistics (locally and nationally). Find out who is being hit hardest and who is making a come back? What sectors of the economy are hiring? Based on your research, what parts of the country are good places to look for work? How is Nevada fairing in the economic recovery? IMPORTANT: Do not to forget to include references to the following vocabulary to help guide your reader: rules, norms, social scripts, and roles.
Before writing, consider the following points for writing this paper:

Audience: Your professor and fellow classmates.
Format: Use MLA documentation style; review “Research Essay Guidelines” in the “Research Essay Overview.”
