Interview a resource room, general ed. inclusion teacher, a school psychologist, a PT, OT, or SLP about how they collaborate with other professionals on behalf of students with disabilities.
Introduction: Provide an introduction of the person interviewed. Include the academic background and job description of the person’s role. Include other important background information about the professional’s role.
Interview: Ask the following questions after getting permission to conduct the interview with a resource room, general ed. inclusion teacher, a school psychologist, a PT, OT, or SLP about how they collaborate with other professionals on behalf of students with disabilities:
1. What measures and assessments are used to determine a student’s eligibility for the ESE program?
2. How does the ESE team work collaboratively to complete the assessments?
3. What is your role in completing the assessments?
4. How does the ESE team work collaboratively to review the assessments?
5. What is your role in reviewing the assessments?
6. How does the ESE team work to share the results of the assessments with the parents?
7. What is your role in sharing the results of the assessments with the parents?
8. How does the ESE team work collaboratively to determine and plan for the instruction (IEP) of a child with a disability?
9. What is your role in planning for the instruction (IEP) of a child with a disability?
10. How much contact do you have with the ESE team at your school?
11. How often do you collaborate with the ESE team?
12. How important is collaboration to you in your role at the school?
13. What makes the collaborative process of the ESE team effective or ineffective? Explain.
14. How does your role on the ESE team effect the outcomes for students
Summary: Analyze and synthesize your interview and experience. Include answers to the following questions: What did you learn from this experience? Did all parties practice good listening skills and reflected on the interview process? Could any other problem-solving tools facilitate the interview process?
