Papers should describe the following two parts before digging into the firm’s issue, or problem, or bottleneck in its supply chain or in an operation process:
1. The company’s (or industry’s) supply chain and then document, flowchart and analyze the supply chain.
2. An existing process for providing a company’s goods or services, and then flowchart the existing operation process.
Your analysis of the process should cover one or couple of the applicable areas of operation design or operation management. For example:
1.A detailed process flow chart including process inputs, process outputs, activities, activity times, processing and labor requirements.
2.Capacity analysis of the process, including the strategies used to address expected customer demand.
3.Suggested metrics used to measure the process or supply chains performance, and how a changed process may improve them.
4.Address other relevant issues as appropriate, such as:
a.Customer demand and process capacity relationships
b.How production is planned, from customer demand to production schedules
c.Quality Management issues
d.Product delivery issues
e.Collaboration and coordination issues
f.The interfaces of the process with both the external and internal customers
g.Waiting line issues and related staffing decisions
h.Other applicable process or supply chain management issues or concerns
