The audience for my essay will have an affection for sea life and the ocean’s environmental health.
Prewriting and Research Packet – Research and Writing
Topic:
My topic is should Blue fin tuna fishing be temporarily banned.
Position:
People should eat less blue fin tuna products because we are slowly killing off their species with commercial fishing.
Audience Description:
The audience for my essay will have an affection for sea life and the ocean’s environmental health. They will be consumers of seafood, but not necessarily tuna fish. They may be avid wild life activists and true nature lovers. They could be strongly opposed to the current practices of commercial fishing but are not aware of the current affects. Since most people eat some form of fish they may be entertained about the idea of how their tuna is captured and prepared. Some people may care less and only be concerned about the price they pay as a consumer. Some may object my argument because they don’t care or either don’t consume seafood. My beliefs are that if we continue to over fish a particular species, no matter how high the demand, we are only causing long term issues to the ecosystem and the blue fin tuna.
Goal:
My goal is to make consumers aware of the long term damage commercial fisheries have on the blue fin tuna species if we don’t make drastic changes to the quota system.
Topic:
My topic is should Blue fin tuna fishing be temporarily banned.
Position:
People should eat less blue fin tuna products because we are slowly killing off their species with commercial fishing.
Supporting Points:
I. Current blue fin tuna populations are diminishing at an alarming rate due to commercial over fishing.
II. The demand for blue fin tin overseas as driven up the price, therefor allowing commercial fishermen to make never before seen profits.
III. Consumers can easily be steered into trying other species of tuna (i.e. yellow fin), while the blue fin tuna’s population can recover.
