Choose a work of American Literature from 1865 to the present that is NOT on our syllabus
The Outsiders by S.E Hinton
Topic: Choose a work of American Literature from 1865 to the present that is NOT on our syllabus and write an essay in which you argue that I should include this new text the next time I teach 2360.
To get started:
You may choose a another literary work (poem, story, novel, play) by one of the authors on our syllabus this semester or a text by an American author (from 1865 to the present) we will not be reading. Choose a text that interests you and it’ll be easier to make your case in the paper.
Requirements:
This paper must be at least 3 double-spaced pages plus an additional and accurate Works Cited or References page (you can use either MLA or APA format for the style of the paper and documentation). You can find information on both styles in the the Module called “Research Paper” in our class Canvas page.
In addition to quoting from the text you choose (which is required), you must have at least 2 outside sources that help you make your argument. For outside sources, you can use books or articles that come from the library’s databases. If one or both of your sources come from a general search on the web (Wikipedia, Sparknotes, or the like), it will likely harm your argument (and your grade).
NOTE: One last thing, your submission will cause your paper to be checked for plagiarism. If you use material from elsewhere, you must cite it in the paper. See syllabus for rules on academic honesty.
You DO NOT have to answer the questions listed below, but these questions may help if you need some options for what to discuss in your paper:
What do you think a future class would gain from reading/discussing your choice Or does it offer something we failed to cover in class?
What do scholars have to say abofstut the work you chose?
