Hidden Biases of Good People

Hidden Biases of Good People

The book Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People (Banaji & Greenwald, 2013) presents lessons learned from an ongoing research project called “Project Implicit.” According to their website, Project Implicit is a “non-profit organization and international collaboration between researchers who are interested in implicit social cognition – thoughts and feelings outside of conscious awareness and control. The goal of the organization is to educate the public about hidden biases and to provide a ‘virtual laboratory’ for collecting data on the Internet.”

For this paper, you should a.) go to the website for the Implicit Assumption Tests (https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html), b.) select any three of the following tests to complete (Asian IAT, Gender Career IAT, Sexuality IAT, Gender-Science IAT, Native IAT, Skin Tone IAT, Race IAT, Disability IAT, and Weapons IAT), take the tests and record the results, and write 4-page reflection paper that does the following:

Discuss your rationale for picking the tests you selected (AND reasons why you chose to stay away from other tests).

Reflect on the outcomes of the tests. Did the results of the assessment meet or depart from your expectations for your performance? How accurately do you think the assessment captured your implicit biases?

Did the results provide you with any A-ha, Uh-uh, Huh, or Uh-oh insights about your implicit biases? If so, please discuss…

Make meaningful connections in your analysis to course readings and discussions.

The 4 pages refers to the body of the paper. It does not include the title page, abstract, and reference page
