  • This thought-provoking TED talk: How nature engages your brain (~6 min, by marine biologist Tierney Thys) (Links to an external site.)
  • And this KQED feature which interviews residents of the SF Bay area and Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods: Nature Deficit Disorder (12 min, KQED Quest) (Links to an external site.)

Part 1

In your initial post, reference the assigned videos in discussing the following:

  1. What is something that surprised you about the first video?
  2. What is something about the second video that resonated with your personal experience?
  3. Do you think that this is a “problem” that should be solved? If so, how would you propose that we, as individuals, a local community, or globally, should overcome nature deficit disorder?
  4. These videos are a few years old… do you think any other current events have influenced our connections with nature, for better or worse? Please share your thoughts!

Reply to at least one classmate to build connections and improve your understanding of the discussion topic.
