Discussion/Census Data/Momondo DNA Videos

bDirections: After collecting and reporting the data from the United States Census Bureau’s website in your main post, consider your own ancestry and genetic make up based on how/where you were raised.  Please don’t miss watching the Momondo videos and then after that answer the questions below and reply to at least one student. To see the rubric/grading criteria click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner.

Steps to follow for data collection and reporting in the learner’s main post:

Open an Internet browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer

Click in the search bar and type in  and browse the home page of the United States Census Bureau.

Record the Current Population of the U.S. and the World

Find QuickFacts link (scroll down, it’s a blue box in the middle of the webpage and it says Quickfacts in that box.)

Populate the Table by selecting Wisconsin, Marathon County, and another county that you choose.

Write down/List the population of Wisconsin in your post. (You may record the data IN YOUR MAIN POST in a list or table format)

Write down/list the population of Marathon County Population AND the county you choose in the latest year you can find.

Scroll down and in your post include the percent of the population of people in Marathon county and the county you chose who report themselves as;

                          Percent White

    Percent Black or African American

   Percent American Indian and Alaskan Native

   Percent Asian

   Percent Hispanic

   Percent of female 

   Percent over the age of 65

   Percent of the population under the age of 18 years

   Percent of people who are high-school graduates or higher.

   What is the median household income of the county?

In an essay format after collecting and including the data above in your main post. Use concepts and vocabulary from the Textbook in your answers. (Key terms;  push-pull factors, migration chain, Anglo-conformity, one-drop rule, old immigration, new immigration, newest immigration, demographic transition.)

  1. Now that you have collected  and recorded the demographics of the counties above, what were you the most or least surprised about?
  2. Now that you have watched the Momondo videos, what were you the least or most surprised about?
  3. Think about your roots/ancestry/identity. What factors have helped you determine/define who you are, and describe yourself?
  4. What trends in immigration did the Hart-Cellar Act affect? 
  5. Many groups’ ancestors reported in the Census Data, including whites, are/were immigrants, who are they, and where did they come from?
