Dear Mama What Is Poetry And What Is Not
Our first unit is going to explore POETRY as a genre.
Look at the following readings. Skim and find a few that you like.
Some are poetry. Some are not. Some are hard to determine.
Using 2 to 4 examples (NOT ALL of them), argue that at least one example definitely is a poem and one definitely is not.
You may want to discuss these examples in terms of key terms. (Remember that one of our learning outcomes is “Critically evaluate works of literature using literary elements or terms and incorporate this knowledge in their own writing.”
Purpose? Meter? Rhyme? Emotion? Audience? Content? Tone?
If you are interested in using poetic terms, consider this source for vocabulary. (You are NOT REQUIRED to use this link for this week’s discussion.) https://www.poetryfoundation.org/resources/learning/glossary-terms (Links to an external site.) Links to an external site.
