Introduction

Throughout the course, you have examined various social dimensions of disaster. You have explored how disaster management works in the United States. You now know that disasters affect a wide range of people, but there a certain segments of the population that may suffer greater consequences or are disadvantaged before, during, and after a disaster strikes. Myths and the media also play various roles in the four phases of emergency management—mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Remember that the emergency manager plays a critical role in disaster management and must account for many variables. For your final assignment, you will showcase connections between learning and application in a career-specific context.

Instructions

For this assignment, prepare a 5–8-page paper (1–1.5 pages per competency for competencies 1 through 5), focused on the course competencies and address two key areas of learning for each competency. Competency 6 will be showcased through your coverage of Competencies 1–5.

This paper should showcase your learning proficiency and describe the importance of your learning relative to application in a career context. This assignment should be placed in your ePortfolio for future reference, and to demonstrate your learning connections for future employment purposes. Requirements

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Written communication: Must be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • Resources and citations: Format according to current APA style and formatting guidelines.
  • Length of paper: 5—8 typed, double-spaced pages, not including the title page or the references page.
  • References: A minimum of six references.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
