Coherent Essay Relating Developmental Psychology
In short, the basic requirement is to write a coherent essay relating developmental domains and theories to practice of teaching and working in educational settings. You need to draw on specific course concepts, readings, and developmental literature (textbook) that addresses the issues/ideas you will discuss. You will be evaluated on how well you have been able to relate developmental domains and theories to educational settings and children’s learning.
I will provide all materials needed for the assignments NO OUTSIDE SOURCES.
Paper Content: In writing your paper:
Think about a domain/area of child/adol. development covered in the first half of the course, and a specific age period, that you as an educator would like to promote in your working with children or families. Examples of areas of child/adolescent development covered so far include: Cognitive, Physical, and Language development.
- a) Why is it important to study/understand this developmental domain/area for children’s growth and learning?
- b) Discuss the competencies and features, including shortcomings, that can be seen in this domain of development during your chosen age period.
- c) Choose one or two developmental theories covered in the course that you feel provide tenable mechanisms of change for supporting the development of competencies in your chosen domain and age period. c1) What specific competencies will you target? c2) What mechanisms of change does your chosen theory (or theories) propose? c3) What kinds of evidence have theorists used to support these mechanisms of change?
- d) How would you implement these mechanisms of change through specific practices in your classroom? (In your answers to c and d, be sure to integrate terminology and concepts from the developmental domain and theory to demonstrate understanding of these concepts/terms (e.g. zone of proximal development)). To supply evidence for your claims of the effectiveness of particular strategies or mechanisms, use examples of studies, or talk (conversational transcripts), from the course textbook, lectures, supporting videos, and articles, as well as from your own personal experience, as evidence to support your claims.
