Throughout the term we have examined the various “problems of God” that have Arisen overtime for those who believe in a monotheistic God who is also understood to be omnibenevolent and all-powerful. Among the various problems we have examined are:

-The difficulties with proving God’s existence

-Theodicy

-The anthropomorphic God vs the unknowable God

-The potential of God to serve as an “opiate” or legitimation for suffering

-The impossibility of God/religion to provide absolute “consolation”

-The (unnecessary) tensions between Science and Religion

-Belief in God as an excuse to indulge in resentment and revenge (towards others and the world)

-God as Being (and metaphysical ground of knowledge/truth)

Make sure to take a stand concerning what you think are the most compelling logical points raised by each position, but also take a stand on what you find to be the most compelling way to live in this world. And, of course, explain why. Note: you must engage each of the thinker’s in group D and David Foster Wallace.

-Group A (Classical Western Christian Though): Plato, Augustine, Anselm, Aquinas, Descartes, Leibniz

-Group B (Modern Skeptics): David Hume, Ludwig Feuerbach, Karl Marx, Fredrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud, Fyodor Dostoevskty (Ivan Karamazov)

-Group C (Non-Religions Phenomenologists): Fredrich Nierzsche, Martin Heidegger, Jaques Derrida

-Group D (Religions Phenomenologists): Emmanuel Levinas, Paul Ricouer, Jean-Luc Marion, Michel Henry, Fyodor Dostoevsky (“The Russian Monk”)

You do not have to include all of these philosophers, just enough to get your point across, however, it is required to use all the philosophers in Group D and David Wallace. You do not have to connect everything to David Wallace’s video like the prompt says, just a few times.

Below I will include all the PDF’s and reading necessary for all of these philosophers. The book that has most of the philosophers for Group D are in the book called Postmodern Apologetics and they appear in chapters 1-6. Dostoevsky is in another PDF.

There are more PDF’s that will be attached once we start communicating so you have the freedom to talk about whatever philosophers in the other groups. If I cannot add other PDF’s, just talk about the philosophers I included which are Karl Marx, Nietzsche, and Descartes.
