The four parts of the Christian Biblical Narrative brings forth an interesting view on the nature of God and reality when it comes to sickness and disease. These are the following views:

Creation: God is the creator of the earth and man in his own image. The earth was made for man to flourish on by being peaceful, loving, and kind.

Fall: When Adam and Eve disobeyed Gods promise by eating the fruit of the tree, they became aware of their nakedness and were afraid. Their disobedience of God’s word affects all of us today. We have all sinned and this act of sin caused us to have to endure a physical and spiritual death.

Redemption: God had seen the hate, violence and wars that had ruled over the earth. God sent Jesus Christ, his only son, to die for our sins. After Jesus was placed in the tomb he was later missing from his grave and it is said that he arose to the heavens.

Restoration: According to the Bible, God will come and restore the world to its original glory.

One would find comfort and hope in the light of illness in all four parts of the narrative because according to Shelly & Miller (2006, p. 74), “The concept begins in Genesis 1:26: Then God said, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth;” because we are made in God’s image we should live according to the scripture to find our life’s purpose. For us to pursue comfort and hope during illness we have to understand the nature of sin. According to Shelly & Miller (2006), Sickness, suffering, and death are evils that plague human life, but they are not the greatest evil we endure. That would be to lose God and to feel doubt in his faithfulness to us. Christians uphold God’s faithfulness, by acknowledging it is demonstrated in a way that might never have happened had God not simply done it.
