For this assignment, you will need to:
- Choose an overhead sport skill from the following list:
- Baseball pitch
- Fastpitch Softball pitch
- Tennis serve
- Volleyball hit
- Swimming, front crawl
- Shotput or Javelin Throw in Track
- Quarterback football throw
- Other sports must cleared with instructor before proceeding.
- Find a video (one of your own of a mock patient, or real patient, or from YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) that demonstrates improper mechanics and/or other mechanical issues (of one of the overhead sport skill choices from above) that you feel would lead to a shoulder complaint. (Think chronic or overuse injuries for this assignment.) Include the chosen video link in your assignment submission. I must be able to open and see the video with one click.
- Type your name, date, and topic choice in the upper right hand corner of first page since no title page is being used this time.
- In a written response discuss the following:
- What shoulder issue(s) or injuries may arise from the demonstrated improper technique in the video? Explain your choice(s) and Why the issue (s)/injuries would occur?
- At what phase/part of the overhead biomechanical motion is the issue (s) occurring?
- Come up with a dynamic warm up and/or pre-event exercises for the sport skill you chose that may help this athlete prevent injury & issues. These may be good for the team as a whole too. This is not a rehabilitation protocol for an injury, this is a preventative dynamic warm up and/or exercises that you feel would benefit the athlete prior to participation.
*See the Rubric listed below before starting paper (Note: 50 of the 75 total points comes from the content of your written response.
