Essay Topics (choose one!):
1) Analyze an apocalyptical novel or movie not covered in this course, the main protagonist of which is a nonhuman, and explain how a nonhuman perspective influences the representation of the end of humanity/ human civilization.
2) Chose an apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic movie or novel, which has not been covered in the course and may have been influenced by one of the following movements: the animal rights movement, transhumanism, or posthumanism. Demonstrate that influence, and discuss the images of the future of humanity in the movie/novel compared to that of the movement you are discussing.
Format:
- All essays are to be double-spaced, one-inch margins, Times New Roman, 12 pt.
- All essays must have a covering page identifying paper title, student name, course title.
- All essays should include a reference section of the works cited.
- Paper pages must be numbered.
- Minimum length – 10 pages
- References according to MLA preferred.
Specific paper components:
- Introduction: Question/issue articulated and clearly described
- Context of the creation of the work articulated
- Reception discussed: Analysis of a movie or book should include at least two reviews or academic articles; the reviewers’ viewpoints are critically analyzed.
- The textual analysis presented (the argument is supported by quotations, or if the film, by descriptions of the relevant episodes)
- Conclusion
