Prepare three (3) substantive discussion questions. These questions require the following criteria:
• Discuss the film screened and reading(s) assigned for that week
• Be open to interpretation. We are less interested in basic plot elements than we are with the craft of filmmaking and analyzing issues of gender, sexuality, race, difference, etc. Your question should not be easily answered by simple yes or no. Effective questions for discussion generally begin with “how?” or “why?”. They should invite agreement, dissent, and—you guessed it—discussion!
• Be specific; rather than vaguely ask something like “Why does this director use so many montages?,” consider the scenes you’re referencing and try to craft a question that explores those implications more closely.
