Read the following scenario: Lauren is 26 months old. She is the youngest of five children. Her parents are both highly educated and very involved with her. They spend a lot of time and energy engaging with her to support her growth and development. Lauren’s mother contacted their family doctor concerned about Lauren’s development. Her mom shared the following information:

Lauren is a happy child. She is very confident and social and freely talks with groups of children that she knows and groups of children she does not know. Her speech is clear and easy to understand Lauren communicates in 4-6 word sentences, using a variety of her approximately 200 word vocabulary.
Lauren’s brothers often invites her to play with the bouncy ball, but she is unable to catch/throw the ball. Her mom has tried to complete crafts and activities with Lauren, but she struggles with holding the scissors, markers, and other writing instruments.
