Describe the unique development of San Francisco and its culture.
The development of San Francisco and its culture can be very interesting. San Francisco was made for the military.According to A&E Television Networks they state “ The first inhabitants of the San Francisco area arrived around 3000 B.C. By the 16th century, when the first Europeans sailed along the California coast (always missing the Golden Gate due to fog), the area was inhabited by the Ohlone-speaking Yelamu tribe.” The culture of San Francisco was made before the first automobile and was known for its local landscapes. Many new and old cultures had mixed, this is where the Victorian and modern architectures meet with each other. San Francisco is also known for their arts, music, food, festivals, museums, and architecture. It is home to many Mexican cultures. It has a great history of the Spanish- American and Mexico culture which is why it is heavily influenced by the Hispanic cultures. San Francisco is only around 400 miles long and has a population of 874,961. San Francisco is built on old ships from the mid- 1800’s. According to A&E Television Networks they state “ The first inhabitants of the San Francisco area arrived around 3000 B.C. By the 16th century, when the first Europeans sailed along the California coast (always missing the Golden Gate due to fog), the area was inhabited by the Ohlone-speaking Yelamu tribe.”

- Rather than city centers, explain why most people in southern Californians shop at suburban malls?
Most people shop at suburban malls rather than city centers because in Southern California there are three of the largest urban areas, and shopping centers. These urban shopping centers are located in San Diego, L.A, and San Francisco. shopping These urban malls are in one of the biggest transportation routes which means it attracts economic and cultural attention.California is known for all of the new industries and businesses expanding an according to William Shelby he states “ More recently, these newer centers expanded with their own suburbs sometimes known as exurbs” ( Shelby pg. 466). This means many small businesses are working in these urban industries and expanding themselves also. Many people have migrated into California to work in these businesses or start their own. This is why many people would rather shop in the urban areas as California’s growing urban areas are the state’s economic and cultural centers.

- Explain why the freeway network is necessary for connecting people throughout the Los Angeles Metropolitan area.
The freeway network is important for people passing through Los Angeles because the suburbs grew faster than freeways did. This means the roads were very busy making it hard to transport through the area. As stated by William Shelby “ Consequently, transportation has become one of the most crippling barriers facing the Los Angeles area’s economic future” ( Shelby pg. 474). This means it is important to build light rail systems to link each community from south, east, north, and west. In the L.A county there was a grant given for $40 million dollars for the city to create more public transportation projects, thus meaning it would create more people to use the city transportation over the freeways. Another form of public transportation would be the metro systems. It completed the central Metro Rail that links these systems, and it strives to make freeways more efficient and sustainable. The freeways can become very crowded in some areas and if people can take more public transportation it will help ease the freeways.

- Explain the tsunami danger along the northern California coast.
The tsunami danger along the northern coast of California is high due to Earthquakes, and volcanic, and landslides near the ocean floor which can cause tsunamis. Many of these tsunamis are generated far out in the ocean but can travel 100 miles away at 500 miles per hour. These tsunamis can cause several devastating results. The last horrific tsunami was December 2004 that traveled thousands of millions from Japan and hit the Pacific shore. Many of the tsunamis are more common around the ring of fire but they could happen to California’s coastline with the San Andrea’s fault being located in southern California. Records have shown that 18 tsunamis have hit California’s coast line since the 1850s but were not large enough to do any damage. Studies also show that California may be expected to have a major tsunami which would hit the west coast. Many of California’s tsunamis can be caused from earthquakes in different states, or countries.
